Thys Armstrong is a Canadian dance and theatre artist, currently based out of Calgary and Vancouver. With a background in jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary dance, and theatre, his work spans many genres and forms.

​

Thys holds over ten years of professional experience performing, creating, and teaching across Canada, the US, and Europe. Currently in his third season as a company dancer with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD), he continues to deepen his love for Jazz Dance and contribute to the Canadian dance landscape.

As a dance educator, Thys has taught for many leading institutions across Canada. In 2014-2015, Thys was the head of contemporary dance at National Capital Dance Educators in Ottawa, and in 2018 led the contemporary half-day training program at Pacific DanceArts in Vancouver. He now teaches at the School of Decidedly Jazz, and is a sought-after teacher for summer intensives and workshops.

Thys Armstrong has performed at Jacobs Pillow (US), Fall For Dance North (Toronto), The National Arts Centre (Ottawa), and Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur (Quebec), and has danced works by Ben Stevenson, Wen Wei Wang, Travis Knights, Vicki Adams Willis, Lisa LaTouche, Brandi Coleman, Melanie George, and Joshua Beamish. He has had the pleasure of performing soloist and principle roles such as Oberon & Demetrius from Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hilarion from Giselle, and Rothbart from Swan Lake. From 2015-2018, Thys was a dancer with Coastal City Ballet in Vancouver, and resident choreographer/rehearsal director from 2020-2021. In 2019, he danced with 3120 Dance Amsterdam, and trained at the Henny Jurriens Studio.
